The lichen genus Gyalidea belongs to Gomphillaceae, Ostropales, Ostropomycetidae,Lecanoromycetes, Ascomycota, Fungi. The genus has a tropical and subtropical distribution with more than 50 species worldwide, only 3 species were reported in China（G. asteriscus, G. japonica, G. luzonensis）. The species of Gyalidea mostly distributes in the areas of drought and arid, occurring ususlly on rocks, but some species on barks, soil, mosses and leaves. It is characterized by its crustose thallus; apothecia sessile,semi-immersed or immersed-erumpent, biatorine, lecideine or zeorine, sometimes the apothecial margin can form small to rather large teeth; the lateral excipulum hyaline or partly pigmented; sparsely branched to simple paraphyses with septate; clavate asci with a ring shaped structure projecting down into lumen lacking internal amyloid structures, 1-8 or polysporous spored; hyaline, transversely septate or muriform ascospores with thin walled and usually slightly constricted at the septa; photobiont chlorococcoid. Using the comprehensive methods of morphology, anatomy, chemistry, geography and molecular systematic, species belonging to Gyalidea collected from China will be researched. It will become the first systematic study on Chinese Gyalidea, which can provide the basic information for the taxonomy of lichenized fungi.
